Ben Nevis 2010

On 21st May 2010 Muslim Aid organised Ben Nevis Challenge, for third year running. By far this years challenge was the most challenging and most successful. Over 50 people participated in this challenge, raising over £29k for education in Africa. Trekkers from across UK joined Muslim Aid in this trek. Trekkers as young as nine participated this year to do their bit for education for Africa. Our youngest trekker Maryam aged 9 managed to reach the peak for the second time in her life.

Awais Ali was one of the trekkers, who shared his experience of Ben Nevis, saying: “the Ben Nevis trek was a great experience which allowed me to make a big difference to those less fortunate than me. Making donations wasn't enough for me so this was a perfect opportunity for me to make a practical difference for once. Not only did I reach the top of the mountain, but I also made some great friends along the way. I would like to thank Muslim Aid for organising this trek and wish them luck in the future.”

We would like to congratulate Salaam for breaking the previous Muslim Aid record by reaching the peak in 2.5hours (an average climb is around 4-5hours). He also raced up to help two members of the trek who were stranded due to fatigue and exhaustion.

Congratulating all the participants, Fundraising Officer Sultan Ahmed said “An event of this scale is always both physically and mentally challenging. But credit goes to every single member of Ben Nevis 2010. The amazing thing was to see people from different race; culture and background come together for one cause – supporting education projects in Africa! They were absolutely amazing in their patience, generosity and brotherhood. It was like a big family out there!”
