GPU 2008
GPU 25-26th October 2008

This year GPU proved to be a great day out for all involved. Geared towards bringing Muslims and non Muslim together, the event is held to create a sense community and harmony, using speakers, performers and activities as a way of engaging people of all faiths.
Muslim Aid had a larger stall this year (which you couldn’t miss with those helium balloons) and was crammed with fun filled activities. Paints, glitter, feathers, stars, jewels and gems adorned our ‘creative corner ‘where face painting and card making were on offer for the excited kiddies. A sea of happy faces decorated with flowers, butterflies, tigers and flags of every country were seen leaving the Muslim Aid stand. We had a Fair trade stall packed with Fair trade goodies - a little taster of what fair trade and our Fair Factory coffee shop is all about. Beautiful Henna designs were on offer for the ladies and we had Nintendo Wii to keep the boys amused.
At the front of the stall and around the event, Muslim Aid volunteers did a fantastic job of encouraging people to get involved with Muslim Aid. Pens, frisbees, balloons and badges went flying off the stall for a small donation and many people signed up to regularly donate.
A big thank you has to go out to all our volunteers who worked tirelessly to make our stand one of the best. Despite working so hard, you always kept a smile on your face which drew the crowds in. Without your hard work and commitment we would not be able to be part of such a fantastic event-THANK YOU!!
"I have to say the organisation of the event by Maryam, Khalid and Jonaed from Muslim Aid was really impressive and in fact all of the volunteers put in a shift. It was my pleasure and the most satisfaction I have got from working in a long time".
Kamil Hamza, volunteer for Muslim Aid.
