Do you have aspiring politicians, teachers or doctors in your class?

The world is their oyster. Teach them how to change it.

Raising awareness about global issues such as development and poverty is key in helping young people understand the world around them. By making connections between their own lives and the global society, they can use their enthusiasm and skills to be proactive in bringing about global change. Whether they are passionate about health, the environment or education, it is so important to encourage young people to connect with the world around them- they are our future leaders after all.

The “Education Really Matters” project

Now in its second year, the DfID- funded “Education Really Matters” project is beginning to make a real difference to the lives of children in both in the UK and in 7 of the countries Muslim Aid works in.

The three-year project aims to raise awareness among young people in London about the challenges faced by children in accessing education in developing countries. The first stage was the creation of a pen pal network between four Islamic schools and young people supported through Muslim Aid’s Rainbow Family programme. The children in the UK will use their pen friend’s letters and conduct their own research to create displays in state and supplementary schools to tell other children about what they have learnt from their experiences.

If you know of a state or supplementary school, primary or secondary, which would benefit from being involved please let us know.
