Over 300 guests attended the Muslim Aid Volunteer and Citizenship Award ceremony held at the Water Lilly banqueting hall in London on 2nd July 2010 as part of Muslim Aids 25th anniversary celebrations this year. The event was held to acknowledge the contribution of Muslim Aid volunteers to the organisation. A welcoming speech was given by Muslim Aid Chairman, Sir Iqbal Sacranie, who congratulated the volunteers for their dedication and commitment to the charity. Awards were also given to volunteers from the Pathway to Citizenship Programme, a Muslim Aid UK development partnership with London Councils (LCC).
The awards were given under the following categories: best mosque collection; project support; events management; administrative support; research; long-standing service; pro-active volunteer; media work and volunteer of the year. Commenting on the celebrations, the Secretary of Muslim Aid, S M T Wasti said: “the event is a wonderful opportunity for Muslim Aid to show its appreciation for those who give their time, patience and generosity for this organisation.”
The volunteers also gave inspirational speeches about their experiences and reflections of working with Muslim Aid, while beautiful recitations of Nasheeds were performed by special guests. The evening ended with smiles and laughter with a comedy sketch performed by comedian Bodrul Hussain. Muslim Aid volunteer Monwara Muttalib remarked: “this has been a fun evening, it’s really nice that our dedication and commitment is acknowledged and this appreciation will certainly encourage others to volunteer and feel part of the Muslim Aid family.”
