Background

Since the earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, 2010 Muslim Aid and its partners have been providing emergency medical care and clean water to thousands of people.

Muslim Aid would like to thank all of our donors. We have up to now raised £353,524.39 exceeding fundraising targets within two weeks of starting our campaign. Your generous donations also helped us to raise £39,205.94 during our live appeal on Islam Channel last month.

However, our partners continue to report on the devastation in Haiti, already the poorest nation in the western hemisphere. They are warning that much more is needed to ensure food and medicine reaches the people of Haiti in time.

Muslim Aid’s response

Your donations have given thousands of people access to clean water

In response to the earthquake our partners Global Medic were quick to set up water purification and distribution points. They have successfully sustained this providing clean water for in excess of 40,000 people. They are expanding their water supply network and now have 45 distribution points in and around Port au Prince. They have also to date distributed 250,000 water purification tablets and are beginning to distribute their new supply of 5 million tablets to other parts the disaster affected area.

This means YOUR HELP is directly reaching of thousands of Haitians.

Medical Care

Up to 200 people a day have had access to medical care through one of two Muslim Aid field hospitals. In addition to this our team has continued working at the Adventist hospital, treating cases, setting fractures, and performing essential operations.

What we plan to do

Although our team in Haiti is currently focused on emergency relief, Muslim Aid is exploring potential long term programmes in Haiti in collaboration with our partners. A needs assessment team from Muslim Aid will be on the ground in Haiti shortly.  Muslim Aid aims to play a pivotal role in the efforts to rebuild the lives of the Haitian people.

They still need your help

The situation is still desperate in Haiti with emergency relief work continuing round the clock. Your help is still needed for today and for tomorrow.

Please continue to donate to secure a better future for the Haitian people.
