Former Commonwealth Special Adviser appointed CEO of Muslim Aid

Muslim Aid, a UK-based international relief and development agency working in over 70 countries, today announced the appointment of Mr Syed Sharfuddin as the new CEO of the organisation.
Syed Sharfuddin, a senior diplomat and a former Special Adviser in the Commonwealth Secretariat, London, has spent more than twenty years promoting democracy and development, working closely with governments, non-government organisations and professional associations in developing countries. He has also worked as an Adviser to Commonwealth Special Envoys and Election Observer Missions in Asia, Africa and the Caribbean region.
Muslim Aid Chairman Sir Iqbal Sacranie said “We are delighted to welcome Syed Sharfuddin in his new role as the CEO of Muslim Aid. He brings with him a rich experience of the development sector and a wealth of knowledge and talent from his past engagement with regional and international organisations, as well as NGOs.”
Syed Sharfuddin said “I feel very much humbled by the enormity of the challenge posed by Muslim Aid’s noble mission. This new responsibility presents both challenges and opportunities ... and as the Executive Head of the world’s leading Muslim relief body, I look forward to advancing Muslim Aid's global mission to serve the vulnerable and disadvantaged worldwide. I also look forward to working in close cooperation with our international affiliates, development partners and millions of supporters.”
Mr Hamid Azad who has been the Acting CEO in the interim shall continue to assist the new CEO as Assistant CEO.
