Muslim Aid and Qatar Charity Sign MOU for Strategic Partnership and Co-operation

Muslim Aid and Qatar Charity signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Thursday 1 July 2010 to formalise their ongoing cooperation in emergency relief, humanitarian assistance and sustainable development in developing countries. The Trustees and CEO of Muslim Aid met with the Vice Chairman and Managing Director, and Senior Officials of Qatar Charity at Muslim Aid Headquarters in London for the signing ceremony. The MOU formalises the work of both organisations to fight global poverty and promote sustainable development.

 

Muslim Aid is a premier Muslim international relief and development agency that was set up in 1985 by mainstream British Muslim organisations to provide humanitarian relief and assistance to poor and vulnerable communities regardless of their race, religion, gender, nationality or political opinion.  Muslim Aid Headquarter in London and its 13 field offices oversee the organisation’s work in over 70 countries across the globe.

Qatar Charity is one of the largest NGOs in the Gulf established in 1980 in Doha, Qatar. Its main focus is to support local and international communities with humanitarian aid and development. Qatar Charity programmes cover more than 40 countries in Africa, Asia and Europe through its registered field offices and local civil societies. 

Welcoming the MOU, the Chairman of Muslim Aid, Sir Iqbal Sacranie said: “This MOU heralds the beginning of an important relationship between our two organisations with one common objective - to alleviate the suffering of people affected by emergencies and conflicts by providing long-term sustainable solutions.”

The Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Qatar Charity HE Abdullah Alnameh said: “Joining forces with Muslim Aid enhances the ability of Qatar Charity to effectively respond to the needs of local communities affected by poverty and natural disasters. Our objective is to do whatever we can to support the neediest groups”.
