Muslim Aid Launches £2 Million Emergency Appeal for Pakistan

03 August 2010

Muslim Aid has launched a £2 Million emergency appeal to help the flood victims in Pakistan. The funds will be used to provide much needed emergency assistance to people in the flood affected areas with food, medicines and clean water.

Over 1500 people have died and around 2.5 million people have been affected by severe flooding and landslides caused by torrential rains in the north-western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Thousands of survivors have been left without food and shelter as houses and livestock have been destroyed.

Muslim Aid is currently on the ground and has started its relief operations in one of the worst affected areas in the Charsadda district. A medical camp has been set up where up to 400 people were treated with emergency healthcare over the weekend. Food, clean water and shelter has also been given to those affected by the floods in the Nowshera and Swat regions.

A Spokesperson for Muslim Aid said: “We are advancing our efforts to provide emergency relief for the flood victims as further monsoon rains are predicted in the region. The long-term task will be to repair the damage to buildings and infrastructure but our immediate priority is the health and security of thousands of people affected by the disaster.”
