Muslim Aid today launched its 2010 Ramadan campaign to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the charity. A media briefing was held at the Muslim Aid head office in London, to raise awareness and funds for its programmes and appeals for some of the poorest people across the world. This year’s “What will you give this Ramadan” campaign will focus on a number of key programmes ranging from ‘feed the fasting’, to healthcare, education and childcare support.

Muslim Aid hopes to build on the success of last year’s campaign which raised an impressive £3.2 million from its donors. Welcoming the beginning of Ramadan, the Chairman of Muslim Aid, Sir Iqbal Sacranie said: “We have set a higher target this year and Insh’Allah hope to raise up to £4 million from our generous donor community. Now, more than ever, is the time to keep in our hearts and minds the 1.02 billion people in the world who are without food and proper nutrition. This Ramadan we have an additional responsibility for the displaced community in Pakistan to provide emergency relief from food, water, medicines and shelter.”

This year the Zakat, Sadaqa and Zakat-ul-Fitr received from donors will provide meals and food packages to people in over 57 countries. It will also provide a lifeline for some of the poorest people across the world to enjoy the blessings of the holy month of Ramadan.
