Muslim Aid Launches Emergency Appeal To Help Syrian Refugees
Syria Appeal Update: 21st March 2012
The ongoing conflict in Syria has left over 200,000 Syrians displaced. Muslim Aid’s Syria Appeal has raised over £240,000 so far. Muslim Aid teams are on the ground in Lebanon and Jordan offering aid and support to the men, women and children fleeing their country for the security and safety of their lives.
Lebanon
As more Syrian villages are getting caught in the crossfire of conflict, refugees are fleeing to the mountainous areas of Eastern Lebanon, where NGO activity is low. The number of refugees entering the area is likely to increase due to the heavy shelling of villages near the border. Muslim Aid is currently completing a needs assessment in the area and has already started distributing emergency aid comprising of food and non-food items, including blankets and sanitary items to 500 families in Irsaal, Bekaa Valley.
Jordan
Two medical clinics are currently being planned and implemented in Ramtha and Mafraq, along the Jordanian border in order to treat sick and wounded refugees and sending them to hospitals in Amman if necessary. The situation is continuously being monitored. A headquarter team is visiting Jordan next week to assess the impact of our response.
Muslim Aid has launched an urgent appeal to provide humanitarian relief to Syrian refugees. As a result of the ongoing conflict and deteriorating living conditions in Syria, thousands of people have fled their homes and taken shelter in neighbouring countries.

Distribution of aid in to Syria refugees in North Lebanon

As a result of the ongoing conflict and deteriorating living conditions, the situation in Syria has intensified and reached crisis point. Thousands of people have taken shelter in neighbouring countries.
In the past two weeks alone, 4,000 Syrian refugees have fled their homes and arrived in the Wadi Khaled Valley in Lebanon. The number is increasing day by day. Muslim Aid is on the ground and has distributed essential food and non-food items, including blankets and sanitary items to hundreds of families.
Muslim Aid has launched an urgent appeal to provide emergency relief to the refugees. We desperately need your help for food supplies, medicine and heating equipment.
The Charity has already started its humanitarian intervention by distributing essential food and non-food items, including blankets and sanitary items to 800 families in Lebanon. Muslim Aid is also closely monitoring developments and assessing the situation of refugees in Jordan.
A Spokesperson for the Charity said: “As a humanitarian NGO, it is incumbent upon Muslim Aid to help the Syrian refugees during this challenging time. We are also coordinating with other relief agencies to provide assistance to the displaced people. To support this emergency programme, we have launched an urgent appeal to raise funds for the Syrian refugees. Muslim Aid is hopeful that the public response to our appeal will be robust and allow us to continue to provide assistance at present, as well as later, if the situation deteriorates further.”
