Sind Medical Camp for Skin Diseases in Pakistan
Rukhsana has been living with her family in the village of Loung Khan Khoso all of her life. She is the eldest of two sisters and three brothers. Her family's only source of income is through her father who works as a farm labourer
In June 2007, Rukhsana and her familiy were some of the 2 million people affected by the floods caused by four days of heavy rains after cyclone Yemyin hit the provinces of Balochistan and Sindh. Many inhabitants of Qubo Saeed Khan were affected with skin diseases from contaminated water. Sadly, Rukhsana was also affected. Her parents approached the doctors in nearby Larkana who were able to administer medication but her condition remained the same. When Muslim Aid Pakistan organised a three day medical camp especially for patients with skin diseases in Qubo Saeed Khan, Rukhsana came along and was given a check up and prescribed medication. The doctors of the Sind Medical Camp advised her to take her medicine for five days and now she is recovering quickly.
“I am very thankful to Muslim Aid Pakistan, who has saved my life; I will always pray for you” said Rukasana.
The Sind Medical Camp is part of a wider project of Muslim Aid Pakistan's shelter support programme in Qubo Saeed khan in the of district Kamber-Shahdadkot. In partnership with the International Organisation of Migration (IOM) and UN-HABITAT, Muslim Aid has provided 1,000 shelter kits to the most flood affected families. During their assessment of the area, Muslim Aid Pakistan found many families were in need of clean water and healthcare facilities. The medical camp is the first stage in addressing the needs of the community.
