Haiti earthquake emergency campaign

Haiti Update 5 November 2010

Haiti 10 Months On

The tropical storm ‘Tomas’ is becoming a serious threat to Haiti and to the 1.3 million people residing in temporary shelter camps.  Heavy rainfall from the storm could lead to flash floods and life-threatening mudslides.  Last week, a cholera outbreak in the north western region of Artibonite turned out to be the country’s worst public health crisis for 50 years, claiming around 250 lives.
Muslim Aid this week formalised plans to expand its long term development effort in the reigion. Since the earthquake hit Haiti in January this year, Muslim Aid has been working with partner organisations, Progressio and GlobalMedic, to help distribute vital emergency relief and to deliver long-term development projects, including the ‘Fast Recovery of Food Production’ project designed to help around 5,000 people made homeless following the earthquake.

The project provides training in agro-management, educational workshops and the distribution of seeds and tools, enabling people to grow food for themselves and increase food security in the region.

Further projects already underway include the provision of a water purification system for up to 900 families in the area of Carrefour, in Port-au-Prince.

Please donate now whatever you can and help this aid get to the people.
