Qurbani Livelihood

Qurbani Livelihood Programme, Cambodia

Muslim Aid Cambodia selected 33 poor families from three provinces and distributed 99 cows (calves) between them for fattening. Each family received three cows which were fattened for six to seven months and sold them back to Muslim Aid Cambodia for its Qurbani programme. Muslim Aid Cambodia bought the cows at market price, USD 210-250 for three. The cows were then slaughtered for Qurbani meat and the meat distributed to the community.  The money recieved by the beneficiaries was used to buy more cows in order to rear them for income and repeat the programme the following year.

cambodia qurbani programmeRokyah (42) got US$225 profit with the sale of three cows to MAC. She is very happy to have the money.

“I did not think that I would earn this money. Muslim Aid’s cows gave me a good amount of profit. My son helped me a lot take care of cows so I will buy him a bicycle for him to go to school regularly as his school is 5.5 kilometres from our house. I will buy a female cow next time so that it can have calves and we can have fresh milk. I cannot express my happiness and thank Muslim Aid very much.”
