Isatu Bangura, Sierra Leone

Isatu at her weekly tailoring training at the Dawah Centre

Before the Rainbow Family Programme, Isatu and her father lived a life of begging on the streets. Isatu’s mother was abducted by rebels and then released after being forced to take hard drugs and becoming ill.

Every Friday after Jummah, Isatu and her Father would go begging around the mosque for food and basic needs. This meant Isatu could not go to School. Poor and impoverished, many days went by where Isatu and her family would go to bed hungry.

Isatu’s fate changed however when she joined the Rainbow Family in December 2007. She is fully supported by Muslim Aid through the Islamic Dawah Training Centre in Sierra Leone. Her parents moved to her foster parent’s house and she is no longer begging. Isatu is in 8th grade now and is studying for her Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE). Her sponsorship covers books, shoes, food, school fees, clothes and medicals.

Isatu is also a member of the Rainbow Family Charity Club in Islamic Dawah Training Centre. She spends three hours every weekend to learn tailoring at the Dawah Centre. Isatu can now look forward to a future of possibilities and leave the past behind her.
