Who we are

Muslim Aid is a British, faith-based international development organisation that provides support to communities around the world affected by disasters, conflict or endemic poverty without regard to their social, religious, or ethnic background.

What you’ll be doing

The Head of Finance will be responsible for financial control, management and reporting of the charity’s worldwide resources. The post holder will provide Senior Management and Trustees with the financial information, advice and support they need to lead and manage the organisation effectively.

This role will ensure that the charity meets all its statutory and regulatory compliance requirements on the due dates. In addition, the role will oversee the implementation of the charity’s strategy, budgets and performance reporting through the management and development of the finance teams.

The main responsibilities of this role will be to:

  1. Maintain a robust and fit for purpose compliance and control environment.
  2. Improve the Business Partnering and inter-action of finance with other departments.
  3. Prepare MA’s statutory accounts and to lead on the financial aspects of the annual audit process reporting to the Finance and Audit Committee.
  4. Contribute to and implement Muslim Aid’s financial strategy and the implementation of robust and cost effective financial management systems and implementation of a financial management strategy for the charity worldwide.
  5. Provide leadership in the budget setting process, providing suitable information to managers and budget holders, leading discussions on budget allocations and presenting financial plans and budget to the Board.
  6. Lead on cost control and ensure we are receiving maximum value from all our suppliers including favourable terms and target year-on-year efficiencies.
  7. Lead and manage the finance team to ensure cohesion, effectiveness and introduction of innovation and change.

Who we are looking for

With a strong academic background, the successful candidate will be a fully qualified accountant who has already operated at a senior level. Ambitious and with an appetite for change and best practice, you will be an engaging leader who can negotiate across all internal functions. Technical skill, team management and communication skills will be essential elements of your personal tool box in order to deal at the top level of this organisation.

  • Fully qualified and accredited accountant (ACA, ACMA/CIMA, ACCA).
  • 7 years plus post qualification experience.
  • Large international organisational experience (charity preferable).
  • Unrestricted access to live and work in the UK (Muslim Aid can not offer Sponsorship for this role.
  • Proven experience of managing finance in a complex environment (e.g. income/funding streams, multi-currency/multi-country environment, international offices and consolidation of accounts).
  • Proven people management experience.
