Muslim Aid, with the support of partners on the ground, Direct Aid Kuwait, have distributed emergency food items such as rice, wheat flour, sugar, and cooking oil to 1,375 refugee families in Doba, a town near the border between Chad and the Central African Republic (CAR). Muslim Aid also distributed Mosquito nets to each of the families and other non-food items to assist them with their current living conditions.

As violence spreads across the Central African Republic, an astounding 400,000 people have fled their homes and livelihoods, with many thousands seeking refuge and safety in neighbouring countries. With thousands believed to be killed, around 2.2 million are in need of humanitarian aid.

    Muslim Aid, with the support of partners on the ground, Direct Aid Kuwait, have distributed emergency food items such as rice, wheat flour, sugar, and cooking oil to 1,375 refugee families in Doba, a town near the border between Chad and the Central African Republic (CAR). Muslim Aid also distributed Mosquito nets to each of the families and other non-food items to assist them with their current living conditions.

    The food aid is to last families for a month. Muslim Aid are closely monitoring the situation on the ground and further needs assessments are being conducted. Since the beginning of the conflict, thousands of families have fled the conflict in CAR and are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.

  • 4 May 2014 update Muslim Aid’s Emergencies Manager, Ute Theobald, recently visited the Central African Republic

    Muslim Aid’s Emergencies Manager, Ute Theobald, recently visited the Central African Republic (CAR) along with CAFOD, MCF and Islamic Relief. The objective of the visit was to assess the situation regarding the crisis in CAR.

    CAR is currently facing a major political, security and humanitarian crisis. The UN has recently estimated that the number of internally displaced people has doubled to 935,000 since December 2013.

    Over 338,000 people are seeking refuge in other countries. According to OCHA, an average of 10,000 refugees arrives in Cameroon each week and 50% are children under 11 (UNHCR).

    There is a dire need for food, healthcare and protection. The number of NGOs working in CAR has no doubled. There is also an urgent need for money, income generation, social cohesion, peace building and agriculture.

    Through Direct Aid Kuwait, Muslim Aid has distributed rice, sugar, cooking oil and flour to refugees in Chad.

  • 10 Apr 2014 update Central African Republic Emergency - Recent Update

    Thousands of families have fled the conflict in CAR and are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. Since launching its emergency appeal, Muslim Aid, with the support of partners on the ground, Direct Aid Kuwait, are planning to distribute emergency food items such as rice, sugar, cooking oil and flour to 3,850 refugees currently staying in the region of Sahr, Chad.

    Muslim Aid are currently monitoring the situation closely and conducting a needs assessment to see where further support can be given. Act now and please donate to ease the suffering of those fleeing from conflict and living in poverty.

  • 25 Feb 2014 update Muslim Aid are working with partners in the Central African Republic

    As violence spreads across the Central African Republic, an astounding 400,000 people have fled their homes and livelihoods, with many thousands seeking refuge and safety in neighbouring countries.

    With thousands believed to be killed, around 2.2 million are in need of humanitarian aid. The World Food Programme’s West Africa Regional Director has said: “They desperately need food and nutritional assistance and other support both inside CAR (Central African Republic) and in neighbouring countries. They need it now and they should not have to wait.”
