Dar Paing Emergency Hospital

Due to curfews and movement restrictions being placed on internally displaced people, access to healthcare for most has been challenging. Around 90,000 conflict-affected people living in 23 camps outside of Sittwe require healthcare. With the support of Mercy Malaysia, Muslim Aid has upgraded the Dar Paing hospital from a rural health centre into an emergency hospital.

The hospital has 12 extra beds, an operation theatre, a delivery room, an outpatient clinic and a generator.  The extra equipment will help meet the increasing demands of internally displaced people who need immediate medical attention.

The hospital now treats 100 patients daily and at the end of 2013, around 70,000 people received medical care.
