In this day and age, we often fail to realise just how much is available to us, and most importantly, to our children.
Many of you will undoubtedly resonate with the “we used to have brick phones” or even the “we used to have no phones” time from when we were youngsters just a few decades ago.
Technology has come a long way since those days and now, we find ourselves with three-year-olds who know their way around an iPad or iPhone incredibly well. It makes you think just how sheltered we actually have it here.
Furthermore, it isn’t just advanced technology that our youngsters benefit from. They have an array of toys, games and media to keep them entertained, cupboards stacked full of wholesome food and snacks to keep them full, and more often than not, parents or guardians to look after them, bathe them, feed them, ensure their good health, educate them, love them and give them the emotional support that they need in order to prosper in life. After all, we only want the very best for our children, don’t we?
On the other side of the world, however, there are many millions of children who would not even be familiar with some of the basic contents of our fridges or larder cupboards. It is unfortunate that we sometimes forget just how good we actually have it. These children, many millions of which have been tragically orphaned due to world conflict or disaster, don’t even have a small fraction of the privileges that our children enjoy today. A constant struggle for survival, many of these children walk hours and hours in the burning heat to salvage what little dirty water they can in a bid to survive. With a constant lack of nourishment, this can be incredibly difficult indeed.
It doesn’t have to be this way, though. Together, we can change their lives.
