Fundraising Ideas for the Holy Month of Ramadan

During the Holy month of Ramadan, there are plenty of opportunities to complete good deeds and support others in need, not to mention the importance of reaffirming our relationship with our faith and Allah (SWT).

Of course, it is important to accomplish charitable acts throughout the year, but during Ramadan, the rewards for giving and generosity are multiplied. While we should not need an incentive to perform such acts of kindness, now is the perfect time to reflect on the benefits and happiness that our actions can bring to both ourselves and those in need.

In addition to fasting, praying, donating your zakat and reading the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), there are plenty of other ways in which you can incorporate the spirit of this most auspicious month into your daily life.

Fundraising is all about supporting vulnerable people in need, both close to home in our own communities and further afield across the world. If you are looking for the perfect opportunity to get the whole family involved in your charitable endeavours, we have put together a few of our favourite fundraising ideas this Ramadan.

Bake Sale

Although many of us will be fasting during Ramadan, there is no reason why we can’t enjoy delicious treats from a traditional bake sale outside of daylight hours. As it’s essential to eat the right foods for suhoor and iftar in order to keep up your strength and ensure the body gets all the nutrients it needs during the fast, why not swap out some of the sugary snacks for healthier alternatives? Similarly, a bake sale could also be a great way for children to share the message of this blessed month with their peers at school.

Whether it’s a sponsored read-a-thon or a sponsored run, why not ask your friends, family and neighbours for donations towards a sponsorship of your choosing this Ramadan? Another popular option is to give something up for a specified period of time – treats like chocolate and coffee are always popular options here! If you want to make your sponsorship timelier, you could choose to give something up for the duration of Ramadan or incorporate your faith into your idea in another way.

Although many of us will be giving generously this month, with our zakat, sadaqah and other donations going to help those in need, there are plenty of other ways in which we can share our own good fortune with vulnerable people. Aside from monetary donations, why not consider donating your time to a local project or faith appeal, actively supporting your brothers and sisters throughout your community?

However you choose to raise funds and awareness this Ramadan, it’s important to remember that each good deed will be rewarded, both now and in the Hereafter. After all, what better time than this most blessed month to show those around you how much you care?

Join us to raise awareness or consider donating with Muslim Aid this Ramadan – your generous support will help us make a difference in the lives of countless people around the world.
