Although the Islamic New Year begins on the 1st Muharram, a lot of us tend to make our new year’s resolutions on the first January, along with the majority of the world.
So many things escape our minds at this point, as we vow to lose weight and get into shape or study more and get a better job, or even aim to go on holiday this year.
The main focus of it all, however, is change - modifying something for betterment. We vow to change something in our ways and habits to make a difference.
Does this change always have to be about us, though?
While a lot of us often wish for world peace and an end to poverty, a lot of us also fail to realise that if we come together, we can make the changes necessary.
If we all resolved to give more to charity this year, or sponsor an orphan, or take part in a fundraiser, or feed the homeless; we would be well on our way to reducing poverty, right?
This 2016 let's join forces and make a mutual resolution to help those in need of our support this year; this won’t just change the way others live, it will change the way you live, and it will bless you and your loved ones all the more. Let’s not waste our life savings in those January sales when we have sufficient attire and belongings already, let’s spare a thought and contribute to those who have absolutely nothing to begin with.
There is no way on earth we would let our children starve before us, but what would we do if we weren’t given the choice? We buy all manner of warm clothing for our children and loved ones in the cold, winter months. It will keep them warm and hopefully away from any viruses or health bugs flying about. What would we do if this wasn’t an option for us? We would take the clothes off our own bodies and put it on our children’s, right?
But, what if we had nothing on our bodies to give them? Doesn’t bear thinking about, does it?
This is a reality for a lot of people out there – their lives are not just a thought, not just a “what if”; it is happening around us daily. Just because we don’t always see it with our eyes, doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist.
Let’s aim to impact poverty this year; with so much combined manpower, there is no limit to what we can achieve together.
