World Bank Official Visits Muslim Aid Flood Mitigation Project Site in Indonesia
Mr. Christian A. Rey, Manager of the Partnership and Trust Fund Policy team at World Bank and former Head of Multi- Donor Fund (MDF) in Indonesia, visited a Muslim Aid water pumping station in Lampaseh, Banda Aceh on 15 March 2012. The station was established by Muslim Aid Indonesia in 2008 under the Flood Mitigation Project funded by the MDF.
The construction of pumping stations and flood gates has helped to protect the central business area of Banda Aceh, the provincial capital of Aceh, against flooding. Acknowledging the efforts of Muslim Aid Indonesia in flood mitigation, Mr. Rey appreciated the completed project while recognizing the difficulties faced during the implementation of the project. He was glad to see the sustained performance that the pumping station is delivering to date.
Upon leaving the project, Mr Rey said, "It is great to see that the pump station and drainage system that has been built can still be operated in an appropriate way, with expectations from the community and the MDF. By observing the project, I know the facilities here are well maintained.”
