Greater collaboration between OIC and NGOs to eradicate preventable diseases
Muslim Aid CEO Hamid Azad called upon a greater collaboration between OIC and NGOs to eradicate preventable diseases and create effective health awareness in OIC member countries
Addressing at the Workshop on the “Role of NGOs in the Implementation of OIC Strategic Health Plan of Action 2014-2023 (SHPA)” in Ankara, Mr. Azad said, “The right to enjoy health security is fundamental to ensure a healthy and prosperous society. Unfortunately almost half of the OIC member countries are among the least developed countries. Child mortality and maternal death rate is very high in those countries due to lack of health awareness and proper health facilities.
Reaffirming Muslim Aid’s commitment to Millennium Development Goals which includes the improvement of maternal healthcare Mr Azad said “Our long term approach to health care provision aims to give communities a real chance of future success”
The workshop has been organized by Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre (SESRIC), a OIC subsidiary, on 7-8 April 2014, in Ankara. The workshop was attended by senior representatives from OIC, IDB, Qatar Charity, Turkish Red Crescent and 40 other leading International charities.
