Where a person is unable to fast due to their ill health, a payment is given in substitution. Fidya is £5 per day for each individual.
So, for the month of Ramadan, the total cost would be £150 (£5 x 30 days of fasting). The money is used to feed the poor; the £5 would feed needy person two meals in one day.
This is when a fasting person deliberately breaks their fast. They are then required to redo the fast and make a payment for the broken fast. If they are unable to do so, they should feed 60 poor people for every fast missed, as a rate of £5 per person.
