Water is one of the biggest blessings we take for granted everyday, but not everyone has access to this blessing - this fundamental human right. In 2021, it's hard to believe that a staggering 2.1 billion people live each day at risk of disease and death simply because they cannot access clean water. In fact, the single biggest cause of death among children in Gaza is drinking contaminated water.
This Ramadhan, while we open our fasts with fresh clean water and dates, there is a child dying every 2 minutes across the world, from a water-related disease.
Water should be a source of hope and life, not fear and danger. This is the case this minute in the conflict zones of Gaza, where 97% of its water has been declared unfit for human consumption while remote communities in Somalia are living with extreme drought for over 10 years. From the ruins of Yemen, where children are dying from unsafe water, to the refugee camps of Jordan where deprivation is rife, Muslim Aid's safe water programme works globally, across all these countries to deliver clean water to those greatest in need.
