Muslim Aid UK staff in Morocco to oversee earthquake response

A member of Muslim Aid’s staff in the UK have landed in Morocco to oversee the emergency response to the earthquake.

Farhal Ahmed, Muslim Aid’s Digital Marketing Coordinator, is flying to Marrakesh, Morocco, where an earthquake on Friday took nearly 3,000 lives. He is overseeing our response to the tragedy and will be able to offer exclusive on-the-ground insights.

Muslim Aid is currently on the ground providing emergency assistance to surviving victims of the earthquake.

On Friday 8th September 2023 an earthquake of 6.8 magnitude struck the south of Marrakech and nearby areas in Morocco, claiming the lives of over 2,901 people, according to the Moroccan Interior Ministry and injuring more than 2,059.

The number of deaths due to the earthquake in Morocco is likely to rise as search and rescue continues with the hope of finding survivors. Earthquake witnesses say they have never seen anything like this, and the tremors were far worse than what they have experienced before.
