What is Zakat?

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam and a compulsory act of worship. It is the requirement that the Muslim who owns wealth at or over a certain threshold (called the Nisab) should donate a portion of that wealth (typically 2.4%) to those who are eligable.

Zakat is a means to bring together the Muslim community by placing mercy between the hearts of those who are wealthy and those in need. In these times of division, this year we are asking the British Muslim community to come together more than ever before and uphold the Islamic values of helping those in need.

Together we can achieve something amazing.
