Child Sponsorship - Support a Child in Need

Welcome to our family.

We support over 5,000 children and their communities across 17 countries in Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia.

Child Sponsorship - Support a Child in Need

We believe every child has the right to a nourishing upbringing, safe from harm, with access to education, healthcare and the emotional support needed to develop the potential found in each of us.

With 10 years of experience and skilled teams around the globe, this Programme aims to improve lives from childhood into the early years of adulthood.

As we continue on this journey to support children around the world, we invite you to join us. From as little as £1 per day, you can make a change in laying the foundations for a brighter future.

CASE STUDY

12-year-old Benjamin is a budding architect and currently, lives with his parents in Sarajevo.

Child Sponsorship - Support a Child in Need

They've been struggling -financially and psychologically - for years.

Having witnessed the death of two of their other children as a result of a grenade during the war, Benjamin’s father has been suffering from severe PTSD ever since and, his mother is described as being pathologically attached to her son.

Almost a teenager, Benjamin rarely went anywhere without his mother – not even to socialise with his friends.

His mother’s attachment issues and anxiety were holding him back from living a relatively normal teenage life.

Since joining the programme, the family have come a long way.

Having received emotional support from the team, Benjamin is now attending workshops organised by the team and is even socialising with other children.

What’s more, after numerous chats with the family and sharing words of comfort and motivation, the positive impact on Benjamin has affected his mother and she is slowly coming to terms with these changes, too.

Our Rainbow Family officer on the ground reported that, ‘every case is different. For some families, we need to do something more. For others, it’s enough just to talk to them and listen to them’.

CHILD SPONSORSHIP FAQS

Can I choose the child I want to sponsor?

We encourage donors to choose an allocation of ‘Need is Greatest’. This allows us to sponsor the neediest children first. We do not allow donors to choose from pictures.

Can I sponsor an orphan child?

The Rainbow Family Programme supports orphan and needy children. You can specify that you want to support an orphan child at the time of making the donation. Please note that an orphan is a child who has lost their father or lost both their parents.

When will I hear from Muslim Aid about the child I support?

We will allocate a child to you within 2-4 weeks of receiving payment. You will be sent a Welcome Pack which will include details of the child and tips on how you can start communicating.

Can I contact the child I support?

You can communicate through letter and email. Muslim Aid will also forward gifts to the child. Gifts facility may not be available in all countries due to security situations. Postage charge will be borne by the donor.

Can I visit the child I support?

You can visit the child if prior notice is given and the country they live in is safe to travel to. It takes a lot of time to coordinate a visit and we will need you to contact the Rainbow Family team 6 weeks in advance. We will require you to fill out a donor request form and submit a background check. Once the request has been processed, we’ll contact the Rainbow Family team where the child lives to confirm the details of the visit.

How long does the sponsorship last?

The Rainbow Family Child Support Programme makes a long term commitment to children worldwide and support continues up to the completion of secondary school or higher education. If you cannot continue, please let us know in advance and we will make arrangements to transfer the child to a new donor.

If I cannot commit to full sponsorship, how else can I be part of the Rainbow Family?

A commitment of £30 per month provides regular support for a child and their family. There is a ‘Child Community Fund’ to which you can donate any amount. The fund supports projects that help children and their communities. Projects range from providing additional coaching or training to carrying out repairs on schools, constructing wells and latrines or building libraries and playgrounds. You can also support the programme through donating to ‘Eid Gifts’ which children receive every year.

I have more questions – who can I speak to?
