2004 – Rapid Tsunami Response

Rapid Tsunami Response

The Indian Ocean tsunami killed over 200,000 people across South Asia and East Africa on 26th December 2004Within 48 hours, Muslim Aid teams were on the ground across Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Somalia delivering emergency relief and later implementing long-term rehousing, livelihood and education programmes. The charity was one of the first international organisations in Banda Aceh and later developed rehousing models and livelihood projects for survivors.

In the Caribbean, Muslim Aid also delivered aid to Hurricane Ivan survivors in Grenada and joined global civil society campaigns such as Make Poverty History to push for systemic change.

We are a faith-based British international charity that provides help to people who are victims of natural disasters or conflict or suffering from poverty, hunger, disease, homelessness, injustice, deprivation or lack of skills and economic opportunities.
