Breaking Decades of Clean Water Crisis in Ogolau, Central Sulawesi - Indonesia

Ogolau Hamlet is located in Tibu Village, Tinombo District, Parigi Moutong Regency – Central Sulawesi. Residents of Ogolau Hamlet told stories while complaining about the lack of clean water to the BWA team during a survey for the WAFP (Water Action For People) program. The people in their daily lives experience difficulties related to the lack of clean water for worship, cooking and bathing, washing and toilet needs. There are 58 families living in Ogolau hamlet.

The residents of Ogolau Hamlet have had to wait for rain to collect water or have to walk 4 km to a clean water source. The community has tried to install a simple pipe so that they can meet their water needs to their homes, but it is always damaged when it rains heavily because the river flows at the source. the springs are too big.

The head of Ogolau Hamlet, Mr. Mardan (50 years) said, "The road is difficult and the footpath goes down the hillside for 4.6 km every day for the people to collect water there, it is very difficult for the people who want to bathe, wash and toilet as well as cook and worship," said Mr. Kadus Mardan.

"Conditions like this have been experienced by my residents in Ogolau since our ancestors long ago, I hope there will be a helping hand and changes for the Ogolau hamlet in terms of clean water facilities and infrastructure," added Mr. Mardan.

The residents of Ogolau Hamlet also do not have bathrooms in their respective homes, so to bathe and wash clothes the people have to go to the front of the house by making booths made of wood and tarpaulin, so they shower and wash clothes open.
