How Much is Fitrana 2027 Per Person in the UK?

At Muslim Aid, the Zakat al-Fitr (Fitrana) amount for 2027 is expected to be £5 per person, though it may change slightly closer to Ramadan. Fitrana is due for every member of your household, including children, so make sure everyone is counted in your donation.

Ramadan is one of the most important times in the Islamic calendar, a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and charity that brings believers closer to Allah (SWT).

It is also a time of great generosity. Whether you pay your Zakat or give Sadaqah, giving in Ramadan brings immense blessings and helps families in need share in the holy month.

Alongside these, there is one obligatory form of giving tied to the end of Ramadan: Fitrana, or Zakat al-Fitr. It ensures that families facing hunger, conflict and hardship have food in time for Eid al-Fitr.

What is Fitrana?

Fitrana, also known as Zakat al-Fitr, is an obligatory charity given at the end of Ramadan. The Prophet ﷺ made it due on every Muslim, young or old, male or female, and instructed that it be paid before people go out for the Eid prayer (Sahih al-Bukhari 1503).

It is due from every Muslim who has more than enough food for themselves and their dependents for the day and night of Eid. The amount is one saa’ (roughly 2.5–3kg) of a staple food such as dates, barley, rice or flour, per person, usually given as its cash equivalent.

Fitrana serves two purposes. The Prophet ﷺ described it as a purification for the fasting person from idle and indecent speech, and as food for the poor (Sunan Abu Dawud 1609).

Fitrana differs from Zakat. Zakat is 2.5% of wealth above the Nisab threshold held for a full lunar year, while Fitrana is a fixed amount per person, regardless of wealth. The head of the household pays on behalf of their dependents, including children.

When Should Fitrana Be Paid in 2027?

Fitrana must be paid before the Eid al-Fitr prayer, which is expected around 9 or 10 March 2027, subject to moon sighting. Many scholars allow it to be paid from the start of Ramadan.

Paying early gives charities like Muslim Aid time to deliver food to vulnerable families before Eid. Fitrana paid after the Eid prayer counts only as ordinary Sadaqah. The obligation remains, so anyone who misses the deadline should still pay as soon as possible.

At Muslim Aid, you can pay your household’s Fitrana online in minutes. Your donation provides food parcels, emergency food packs for families affected by conflict and disaster, and the chance for struggling families to celebrate Eid.

How Much is Fitrana 2027?

The expected Fitrana rate for 2027 is £5 per person, so for every member of your household, including children, you need to give £5 before the Eid prayer.

The rate is based on the local cost of one saa’ of staple food, so it may change slightly as food prices shift. We will confirm the final rate closer to Ramadan 2027.

The Zakat al-Fitr Amount for 2027 Per Household

Fitrana is calculated per person, not per household. The head of the household can make one payment covering everyone, as long as it includes each person’s share.

At the expected rate of £5 per person:

  • 1 person: £5
  • 2 people: £10
  • 3 people: £15
  • 4 people: £20
  • 5 people: £25
  • 6 people: £30
  • 7 people: £35
  • 8 people: £40
  • 9 people: £45
  • 10 people: £50

To calculate your total, multiply the number of people in your household by £5. A family of four pays 4 × £5 = £20, and a family of six pays 6 × £5 = £30.
