Winter is just around the corner; the days are becoming much shorter and darker every day, salaah (prayer) times are getting earlier and many of us are already digging into storage for our stash of winter coats and warm clothing from last year.
Whilst we are contemplating whether our children need new gloves, coats, scarves and boots to see them through the colder months, there are many homeless people and those less fortunate than us out there without anything close to what we call winter essentials; preparing themselves to face yet another blistering cold season without the essential basics they need to get them through in one piece.
We may not actually need these new essentials to get us through the cold weather, we merely want them to feel more comfortable. These homeless people, however, certainly do have a need for them. Many of these individuals have no shelter, no warm clothes, no food or drink to keep them nourished and a shocking percentage of those suffering are elderly.
So, it is this time of year where Muslim Aid steps up and launches its winter charity appeal for the homeless and the elderly. With your continued generous support, we reached out to almost 8,000 of those less fortunate in the UK during 2015 and 2016 with our winter campaign - and with your help, we aim to reach out to many more, both in the UK and worldwide, this 2017.
You can help us by helping the homeless this year. How? By donating a ‘Keep Warm Kit’ for those in need.
Each Keep Warm Kit includes essentials such as blankets, socks, gloves, scarves, hats, sleeping bags, nourishment and much more to help those suffering from poverty see through the winter season with ease. Each Keep Warm kit costs just £50 to donate; for more information or to donate a Keep Warm Kit, please click here.
What’s more, there are also many other ways in which you can help someone in need this winter; your donation can help to provide support to those suffering from hardship in the form of utility and heating bills, providing hot meals and soup kitchens, providing warm clothing and even just simply providing company to those who are lonely and isolated.
“Those who perform regular prayer and give regularly to charity; have in their hearts the assurance of the Hereafter”
- The Holy Qur’an (31:4)
So, when you find yourself switching on the central heating over the next few months, remember this winter, charity can go an incredibly long way for those that have no choice but to go without; join the Muslim Aid Share the Love Winter Campaign and help someone to get through the winter comfortably this year.
