BBC Verify Features Yusuf Kalam of Muslim Aid on Rafah

Muslim Aid’s Yusuf Kalam features on BBC Verify to discuss #AllEyesOnRafah

With #AllEyesOnRafah trending, BBC Radio 1 spoke to Muslim Aid’s Philanthropy Manager, Yusuf Kalam, about the impact the trend has on advocacy for those being massacred in the besieged Gaza Strip.

During his interview, Yusuf urged that viral social media trends are making an impact on the ground, because they keep Palestine fresh on the mind of the public.

This leads them to advocate for Palestine on deeper levels, reminds them to donate to those in need, and, most importantly, humanises those suffering in the Gaza Strip.

“The #AllEyesOnRafah trend is reigniting the conversation for us to demand an immediate ceasefire to allow humanitarian aid to go through the Rafah border and to ensure we put the lives of innocent people at the forefront of all the conversations are taking place”, Yusuf urged.

“As a charity we’ve adopted the stance that charity and advocacy work go hand in hand. We need to raise awareness to make sure that humanitarian aid is allowed in through Rafah and other humanitarian corridors to ensure we save lives”, he added.

Since the start of this outbreak of conflict, Muslim Aid has been calling for a ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian corridors by being an active member in a coalition of hundreds of NGOs calling for an immediate ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian corridors. Muslim Aid has been in Gaza since 2006 and since carried out swift responses to emergency situations while building development projects. We have invested in education, housing for orphans and widows, providing psychosocial services to the traumatised, championing accessibility for the disabled.

We are a faith-based British international charity that provides help to people who are victims of natural disasters or conflict or suffering from poverty, hunger, disease, homelessness, injustice, deprivation or lack of skills and economic opportunities.
