Muslim Aid sends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr Hany Al-Banna OBE, one of the founding trustees of Muslim Aid, for receiving the 2023 Daniel Phelan Award for Outstanding Achievement.

Dr Hany (as he is affectionately known) is also the co-founder of Islamic Relief Worldwide, founder and Chair of the Humanitarian Forum (now the World Humanitarian Action Forum), founder and former Chair of the Muslim Charities Forum, former Chair of the Zakat House and former Chair of the HIV Fund.

His energy and compassion continue to drive him on into his 70s and he remains an influential mentor and advisor to many Muslim charities who continue to be inspired by him and benefit from his wisdom gained over decades of charitable work.

Dr Sara Pantuliano, trustee of Muslim Aid (pictured) was present at the awards ceremony and said “It was very special to see Dr Hany receive this well-deserved and long overdue recognition. I’ve known him for many years and the joy he brings to the work he does to support numerous charities and organisations across the world remains as infectious today as it was when he first started on his journey decades ago!

We are a faith-based British international charity that provides help to people who are victims of natural disasters or conflict or suffering from poverty, hunger, disease, homelessness, injustice, deprivation or lack of skills and economic opportunities.
