UK recognises Palestine Statehood

UK recognises Palestine Statehood

This week’s recognition of the State of Palestine by the UK government and others is a welcome step, but it comes far too late. For decades, Palestinians have been denied the self-determination that is their right. Today, as genocide continues to be documented by the United Nations, Gaza lies in ruins and the West Bank is under siege. Recognition alone is not enough. It is like pouring a single bucket of water on a house that has long been engulfed in flames.

What Palestinians need now is not symbolic gestures but urgent action:

An immediate halt to all arms sales to Israel.
An end to trade policies that fuel illegal settlements.
Unrestricted humanitarian aid into Gaza — food, water, medicine, and fuel — to stop mass starvation and the collapse of healthcare.
The protection of civilians and an end to systematic targeting of homes, hospitals, and schools.

This is a pivotal moment in history. The UN has concluded that Israel has carried out acts of genocide. On the ground, a brutal assault on Gaza City continues, with plans for further forced displacement of Palestinians in the coming weeks. Tens of thousands of innocent men, women, and children are already dead. Over 165,000 are injured. Millions face starvation and disease.

It is too late for those we have lost — but not for the survivors. Their future depends on international action. The UK must hold perpetrators accountable and help rebuild a Palestine that honours the hopes, memories, and dignity of its people.

History is watching. Humanity is watching.
The time for action is now.

We are a faith-based British international charity that provides help to people who are victims of natural disasters or conflict or suffering from poverty, hunger, disease, homelessness, injustice, deprivation or lack of skills and economic opportunities.
