We Are One Britain: Muslim Aid calls for addressing systemic issues behind riots

With the UK grappling with the effects of the turmoil we as a nation have endured over the last two weeks, Muslim Aid is firm in our commitment in Serving Humanity regardless of colour, race, religion, gender and creed.

We understand vulnerable members of affected communities have been enduring the impact of the ongoing situation. Some have refused to leave their homes, while others put on a brave face, having faith in the good of society.

Despite the darkness that we fell into, the en masse response has brought communities together, showing the strength and resilience of our nation. People, more than ever, are reflecting on their role in society. By the grace of the Almighty Allah, bridges are being built and mutual understandings are creating more unity and equity, and we pray this trajectory continues.

Undoubtedly, Muslim Aid firmly rejects the ongoing attacks against all minority groups that have erupted in the UK over the last two weeks.

We also believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel and have unwavering faith in our strong, solid and stable nation. Islamophobia, racism and all other forms of discrimination have no place in our home.

Muslim Aid has, for decades, worked with some of the most marginalised communities across the UK and through its programming has seen first-hand the impacts of systemic issues which have been exasperated by the cost-of-living crisis. We must address the issues at their root: poverty, racism and all other forms of inequality.

Khalid Javid, CEO of Muslim Aid says:

“We would like to extend our hand in support of all communities affected by the riots, regardless of race, religion or gender. Muslim Aid has a strong history Serving Humanity in the UK, and we will continue this track record of supporting people of all communities.

We also thank our industry colleagues and partners who have contacted us, offering solidarity and support. Moving forward we will be looking to collaborate with all those who share our vision and values to see how we can further support our communities in need and build a better Britain together.

The Holy Qur’an affirms that we were created as tribes and nations so we may know each other. Let this message be a powerful reminder of the importance of unity, peace, and mutual respect for us all.

We are a faith-based British international charity that provides help to people who are victims of natural disasters or conflict or suffering from poverty, hunger, disease, homelessness, injustice, deprivation or lack of skills and economic opportunities.
