World Homelessness Day

What is World Homelessness Day?

This is a concept created after online discussions between communities working with homeless people around the world.

World homeless day is held annually around the world on the 10th October to raise awareness of homelessness and provide a chance for people to get involved locally. Due to the impact of Coronavirus thousands of UK citizens are falling below the poverty line and into further financial difficulty. Currently there are over 300,000 homeless people in the UK and an estimated 135,000 children living in temporary accommodation with the numbers increasing daily.

Our Work

In recent months Muslim Aid has been investing more time and resources into supporting charitable initiatives across the country. Over the weekend we partnered with our trusted local partner PL84U – Al Suffa to raise awareness of World Homeless Day (10/10/20). We have a shared sense of community and faith, a faith which teaches us to provide for and share with others who are less fortunate regardless of their faith or non. Since 2012 PL84U – Al Suffa have been providing a number of services on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month, including free hot meals and a friendly environment to the elderly, people in need, the homeless and those who are living in conditions of social economic, cultural deprivation and isolation. This is a place where several languages are freely spoken and respected; the lack of verbal communication does not deter us from reaching out and showing a caring attitude towards our fellow ‘guests’.

‘’With the cold winter months upon us, foodbanks are essential for families who are falling into hardship and those who may be without a home. Everyone at Muslim Aid would like to extend our gratitude to the community who support these local initiatives with their time, money and prayers’’ – Ahmed Choudhury Muslim Aid Staff

How To Help the Homeless
