Muslim Aid Proudly Sponsors Iftar Event with Islamophobia Response Unit (IRU) and STRIVE to Tackle Islamophobia and Foster Unity

Press Release | London, 14th March 2023

On Friday, Muslim Aid was honoured to sponsor a pivotal iftar event in collaboration with the Islamophobia Response Unit (IRU) and STRIVE, focusing on addressing challenges faced by Muslim communities in the UK and promoting unity in the face of rising prejudice. The event also addressed islamophobia and bias in the media.

Given that misconceptions and discrimination continue to impact Muslim communities across the country, the iftar came at a critical time. By highlighting the challenges the British Muslim community are enduring, the event aimed to foster meaningful dialogue, share insights, and develop actionable strategies to combat Islamophobia and build a more inclusive society.

As a sponsor, Muslim Aid reaffirmed its commitment to standing against hate and supporting initiatives that champion understanding, respect, and solidarity. This event was a powerful opportunity to inspire change, ensuring that Muslim communities feel valued and empowered.

Muslim Aid Chair, Mustafa said:

"The 4m Muslims that live in the UK cannot fully achieve their potential or have dignity if they are victims of Islamophobia. It’s not enough for an aid organisation to deal with the symptoms of a disease. We have to tackle the root causes that lead to poverty and suffering in the first place."

The iftar also featured speakers from IRU and STRIVE, as well as Asif Malik, Director of Fund Development for Action for Humanity International, and Rizwana Hamid, Director of the Centre for Media Monitoring.
