The Urgent Medical Crisis in Gaza

After months of devastating conflict, thousands of people in Gaza are living with severe injuries caused by explosions, collapsing buildings and shrapnel. Many patients have suffered complex trauma to their bones, joints and spine, leaving them unable to walk, work or care for their families.

Gaza’s healthcare system is under enormous strain, with hospitals operating far beyond capacity and facing critical shortages of equipment, medical supplies and operating theatres. As a result, many patients are forced to wait for urgent treatment while living with intense pain and life-changing injuries.

Without access to timely orthopaedic care, these injuries can lead to permanent disability or amputation. Many people urgently need surgery to treat:

• Shattered or severely fractured bones
• Crushed or damaged limbs
• Complex joint injuries
• Severe spinal injuries that risk paralysis
• Long-term complications that can cause lifelong disability

For many patients, receiving surgery means the difference between walking again and living with permanent loss of mobility.

How Muslim Aid is Delivering Life-Changing Surgery

We are supporting essential surgical care through Yaffa Medical Hospital for injured patients in Gaza. These orthopaedic procedures help repair broken bones, stabilise damaged limbs and restore movement for people whose lives have been changed by conflict. By supporting these surgeries, we help patients regain independence, relieve severe pain, and begin the long process of rebuilding their lives.

The programme supports a range of life-changing medical procedures, including:

• Realigning and repairing shattered bones
• Stabilising limbs using metal plates, screws or rods
• Reconstructing severely damaged arms and legs
• Treating spinal injuries to prevent permanent paralysis
• Supporting recovery and mobility after trauma

In addition to these major procedures, we also support ventilation tube surgery for children. This simple but life-changing operation helps children suffering from chronic ear infections and fluid build-up in the ear by:

• Draining trapped fluid
• Relieving pressure in the ear
• Restoring hearing
• Preventing speech and learning delays
