How The Livelihood Programme Works

Muslim Aid is committed to helping the most vulnerable in our world. To this end, our unique Livelihood Programme provides poor families with long-term financial security. Your Qurbani donation plays a crucial role in uplifting the lives of those who struggle during this important time of the Islamic calendar.

In preparation for Qurbani 2023, our Livelihood Programme puts into place a sustainable supply chain between farmers and the vulnerable. This five-step process protects the local farming communities’ livelihoods, as well as gives greater access to fresh, nutritious meat and food to local Muslim communities.

Step 1: We lend pregnant goats to local farmers

This simple loan agreement allows the farmers to keep the offspring and make use of the animals throughout the year. This means they have milk to drink and wool from the sheep and are able to increase their livestock.

Step 2: The animals are sold when ready

During Eid-ul-Adha, the farmers sell offspring from the original animals for Qurbani. The farmer benefits from the sale, and the people who slaughter the animals also get paid.

Step 3: The loaned animal is returned to Muslim Aid

Muslim Aid takes back their original loaned animal for Qurbani and distributes the meat to the poor and needy.

Step 4: The poor and vulnerable receive their share of the meat

Not only do the poor receive meat during Eid-ul-Adha, but they also get to enjoy the festivity of Eid with their neighbours and family.

Step 5: The farmer invests back into the farm

With the money received from the sale of animals, the farmer is able to re-invest in their farm by buying farming essentials and rearing more animals.

This circuitous supply chain occurs every year, and for Qurbani 2023, it is no different.

When is Qurbani 2023?

Qurbani 2023 takes place between Wednesday, 28 June and Saturday, 1 July. Our Livelihood Programme ensures that the local farmers have been nurturing and tending to their goats this year in preparation for this year’s Eid celebrations.

Your Muslim Aid Qurbani donations are guaranteed to bring longevity and sustainability to communities across the world and beyond. By donating to our Livelihood Programme, you are helping the poorest communities build a robust and resilient way of life.
