In 2014, Muslim Aid launched its first ever UK Qurbani distribution for poor and disadvantaged communities nationwide. Despite the UK being the world’s sixth largest economy, 1 in 5 live below the official poverty line. For many, basic foods are too expensive to buy, especially meat. Muslim Aid’s UK Qurbani gives donors the opportunity to donate money to have a lamb slaughtered and a third of the meat, as prescribed in Islam, given to the poor. The remaining two third’s, are given to the donor to share amongst themselves, family and friends.

Last year we reached many single parent families, the homeless, and women fleeing from domestic violence amongst others, who otherwise are unable to include meat as part of their weekly diet.
