Muslim Aid’s Early Learning Project with Home-Start Tower Hamlets

Within Tower Hamlets there are 30,745 children living in poverty. 27% of these are living in severe poverty, which ranks as second in the UK top ten local authority areas (Save the Children, February 2011). These children suffer disproportionate disadvantage and underachievement to their peers, because of delayed emotional, social and cognitive development.

Muslim Aid funded this project is 2012 and it is still ongoing which will focus on the importance of involving parents in their child's early learning during the formative years. Families will be matched with trained parental volunteers to provide outreach support for 2 hours each week. Referrals will focus on:-

  • children 'at risk' of learning delay
  • Parents who lack the skills /confidence to positively interact with their baby/children.

450 families has so far benefitted from the services provided through Home-start tower hamlet.

We are a faith-based British international charity that provides help to people who are victims of natural disasters or conflict or suffering from poverty, hunger, disease, homelessness, injustice, deprivation or lack of skills and economic opportunities.
