A Blessing We Often Take for Granted

As temperatures rise and many of us seek relief from the summer heat, we are reminded of how essential water is to our daily lives. A cold glass of water, a shower to cool down or simply turning on the tap are blessings we rarely stop to think about.

Yet for millions of people around the world, clean water is not guaranteed. In communities affected by conflict, poverty and displacement, families walk for hours under the scorching sun in search of water, often returning with supplies that are unsafe to drink. For many, water is not a convenience. It is a daily struggle.

Water protects children from disease, allows communities to flourish and gives families the dignity of knowing they can drink, cook and wash safely.

Water and the Legacy of Ashura

Water runs through some of the most powerful moments in our history.

On the Day of Ashura, Allah parted the sea and delivered Prophet Musa (AS) and the Bani Isra'il from oppression. In that moment, water became a sign of Allah's mercy, protection and power.

Generations later, on the plains of Karbala, Imam Husayn (RA), the family of the Prophet and their companions were denied access to the waters of the Euphrates for three days. Men, women and children endured severe thirst yet remained steadfast in the face of hardship and injustice.

As we remember the mercy shown to Prophet Musa (AS) and reflect on the sacrifice and perseverance of Imam Husayn (RA), we are reminded never to take this blessing for granted.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"The best charity is giving water." (Ahmad)

This Muharram, honour the lessons of Ashura by helping provide clean water to those who thirst for it most.

A Mercy That Lasts

Your donation this Muharram can provide emergency drinking water to families in crisis, support widows struggling to care for their children and help vulnerable orphans receive the care they deserve.

Through hand pumps, mini water systems and solar-powered wells, your charity can also bring lasting relief to entire communities, transforming lives for years to come.

Whether it is a cup of water for a thirsty child or sustained support for a family facing hardship, your generosity can become a source of mercy and ongoing reward in this blessed month.
