A strong earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale today hit different parts of South East Iran in Seistan-Baluchistan along the border of Pakistan at a depth of 95 km. The earthquake also affected areas in North West Pakistan.
According to first information from border areas of Pakistan and Iran, the most affected areas of Iran are Zahedan and Kash and in Pakistan Taftan, Panjgur, Turbat and Buleda. More than 1000 houses and shops have been destroyed and 9 people are reported dead in Pakistan. In Iran the number of casualties and damage to infrastructure is being assessed. The earthquake has been felt in India, Afghanistan and other Gulf States.
Muslim Aid is carrying out a needs assessment in Pakistan and is in discussion with partners in Iran. Further updates will be given on Muslim Aid’s humanitarian response.
