Gaza Crisis in Numbers

Gaza Crisis in Numbers

The ongoing conflict in Gaza means that innocent civilians face a daily struggle for survival. The continuing troubles have placed great strain on the region, causing a shortage of essential supplies and lifesaving aid, alongside major issues for the economy and local infrastructure.

Conditions are challenging for the people of Gaza, and with each passing day, little seems to change. Many people have been displaced, left with no choice but to flee their homes, communities, and livelihoods. Some have lost their loved ones and countless more have been injured throughout the course of the conflict. These innocent, vulnerable people are in desperate need of our help and assistance.

We have compiled some key figures and statistics in an aim to shed some light on the crisis, highlighting the very real humanitarian impact that the troubles are having on the people of Gaza.

Almost 300 Palestinians lost their lives as a result of the conflict in 2018 alone.

Countless innocent civilians have been caught up in the crisis over the years, with lives being turned upside down and changed forever. Through no fault of their own, families have been split up, loved ones lost, and livelihoods destroyed. Many vulnerable people have lost their lives as a result of the troubles, with 299 Palestinian deaths reported in 2018 alone.

29,000 people have been injured in Gaza in just one year.

The Independent has reported that a staggering 29,000 people were injured in Gaza in just one year, between May 2018 and May 2019. Thousands of those who have been injured are unable to access essential medical supplies and the healthcare that they urgently need in order to treat and recover from their injuries.

Almost 500 Palestinians have been displaced in 2019 so far.

As a result of the conflict, hundreds of people have been left with no choice but to flee their homes and communities, leaving behind everything they once held dear. It has been reported that a total of 481 Palestinians have been displaced in Gaza in 2019 so far, and it is likely that this number will only continue to rise throughout the rest of the year.

Poor water quality is contributing to over a quarter of all reported disease in Gaza.

Countless people in Gaza are unable to access clean, safe water. Many people rely on bottled water for daily use, struggling to survive without additional aid and assistance. However, others are simply not able to access clean water. As a result, a worrying report stated that poor water quality and insufficient access to water contributed to over a quarter of all reported diseases in Gaza in 2016.

Gaza’s unemployment rate stands at 55%.

The region’s economy and infrastructure have also been seriously affected by the ongoing conflict. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, the unemployment rate in Gaza stood at 55% during the third quarter of 2018. With few opportunities to earn a living, desperate people have no choice but to depend on aid in order to feed their families.

An astounding 80% of the population of Gaza depends on humanitarian aid.

The same report stated that a staggering 80% of the population of Gaza currently depends on humanitarian aid. That equates to a total of nearly two million people. These people face hardships every day as they struggle to access the necessary supplies and essentials that they need in order to survive.

Make a Donation and Help Us Support Gaza

We recognise the struggles that the people of Gaza are facing every day. We have already helped to save many innocent lives, but as the conflict continues, there are still countless more people in urgent need of our support. Please, make a generous donation with Muslim Aid and help us answer their prayers.

Just £60 could provide an emergency pack filled with high-nutrition food, while a donation of £100 could provide urgent medical supplies.

A donation of £150 could help to fund a solar-powered water station to give 4 families clean, safe water for 10-15 years. £450 could do the same for 12 families, £900 could provide clean water for 24 families, or a selfless donation of £2,250 could allow 60 families access to safe water for 10-15 years.

No matter how much or how little you have to give, the people of Gaza will appreciate your donation. Donate now and help us ease their suffering today.
