Muslim Aid Hosts Inspiring Bradford Interfaith Iftar Dinner on International Women’s Day, Launching ‘Step In’ to Tackle Knife Crime

Muslim Aid Hosts Inspiring Bradford Interfaith Iftar Dinner on International Women’s Day, Launching ‘Step In’ to Tackle Knife Crime

On Saturday, 8th March 2025, coinciding with International Women’s Day, Muslim Aid hosted a remarkable Interfaith Iftar at Walton View Hotel in Bradford. Set against the stunning backdrop of the hotel’s beautiful country setting, the event celebrated Bradford as the UK City of Culture and honoured the invaluable contributions of women from the Muslim community across the North and Northwest.

The evening brought together faith leaders, community representatives, and key stakeholders to share a sunset meal marking the breaking of the fast. This gathering fostered interfaith unity while also serving as the platform for the launch of 'Step In'—a vital initiative aimed at tackling knife crime and supporting at-risk youth in Bradford.

Strengthening Communities Through Dialogue and Action

As part of Muslim Aid’s 40th-anniversary celebrations, the organisation remains committed to addressing pressing social issues affecting communities across the UK. The Bradford Interfaith Iftar was a pivotal event within a year-long programme dedicated to enhancing interfaith collaboration, social cohesion, and youth empowerment.

Distinguished speakers from diverse faith groups, local government, and grassroots organisations came together to foster meaningful dialogue and explore practical solutions to urgent challenges—including the concerning rise in knife crime among young people in Bradford.

Launch of ‘Step In’ - A Life-Changing Initiative

A central highlight of the evening was the launch of ‘Step In’, a programme specifically designed to support young individuals entangled in the youth justice system. This initiative aims to restore self-worth, promote self-development, and steer young people away from crime and gang culture.

Through ‘Step In’, Muslim Aid seeks to combat issues such as knife crime, county lines drug dealing, and postcode-related conflicts by engaging youth in positive and structured environments. The programme, delivered in a gym setting, offers boxing training, counselling, career guidance, and educational and vocational training. This holistic approach is designed to build confidence, inspire self-belief, and empower young people to become positive role models within their communities.
