Muslim Aid’s UK Flood Appeal 2014

Heavy rain, bitter storms and coastal surges have caused severe flooding in the regions of Midlands, southwest and southeast of England. Around 1,000 homes have been evacuated along the Thames after towns and villages including Chertsy, Wraysbury and Datchet were flooded, with many properties still at risk. According to the Environment Agency groundwater levels are so high in some parts of the country that flooding is likely to continue for weeks or even months. Evacuation is still taking place in Staines and Egham areas.

Muslim Aid is monitoring the situation on the ground and the rapid assessment team will be travelling to the affected areas to conduct needs assessment within the next 24 hours.



Muslim Aid’s main objective in carrying out this assessment is to identify the needs of those affected and ascertain the type and quantity of assistance required. In cooperation with local authority and other organisations Muslim Aid will identify the areas which are difficult to access. The assessment team will be looking for coordination and collaboration mechanisms with the local authorities. Muslim Aid will also be mobilizing its volunteers to assist the affected communities.
