THE ASIAN TSUNAMI - 20 YEARS ON

The Asian Tsunami – 20 Years On: Bringing communities together for reflection and inspiration

This year marks 20 years since the devastating Asian Tsunami of 2004, a catastrophe that claimed an estimated 227,898 lives across 14 countries, with Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, and Thailand suffering the greatest losses. In the face of this unimaginable tragedy, Muslim Aid responded with a commitment to relief, recovery, and resilience, supporting affected communities in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and the wider region.

One of the most enduring legacies of this intervention is the Peace Village, a community built to provide safety, shelter, and hope in the aftermath of the disaster. Over the past two decades, the impact of our work has continued to evolve, touching thousands of lives and contributing to long-term development and disaster preparedness in the region.

Join us for this special online commemoration webinar and engage with our former and current Muslim Aid team members sharing stories and lessons learnt from the disaster.
