Gaza One Year On: A message from our CEO

Gaza One Year On: A message from our CEO

7 October (Gaza: One Year On)

As salamu alaikum wa rahmat Allahu wa barakatu,

Today, October 7, marks a solemn anniversary for the people of Gaza and for all who stand for humanity and justice. Over the past year, the people of Gaza have faced immense hardship, with thousands losing their lives and countless more injured or displaced. The ongoing blockade and conflict have devastated homes, infrastructure, and lives, creating one of the most severe humanitarian crises in recent history.

Muslim Aid was one of the first charities to respond to this crisis, and we have been committed to serving the Palestinian people in both body and mind. We have provided emergency medical kits, food packages, and essential clothing, and have offered psychosocial support to help children cope with the severe trauma they have endured. Our efforts have been guided by a holistic approach, respecting the dignity and values of those we serve.

Despite the challenges, our commitment remains strong. The Holy Qur’an reminds us, “Indeed, the believers are brothers, so make peace between your brothers and be mindful of Allah” (Qur’an 49:10). In this spirit, we must work together to support Gaza, advocating for an immediate ceasefire and calling for all humanitarian corridors to be opened. It is only through unity, compassion, and action that we can restore hope where it has been diminished.

Over this past year, I have personally called for justice and peace, raising our concerns in the UK Parliament and in international forums. Yet, the suffering of the Palestinian people did not begin a year ago—it is the continuation of decades of hardship, loss, and injustice.

Muslim Aid’s work in Palestine began in 2006, and we will continue to stand alongside our brothers and sisters, regardless of the circumstances, with the permission of Allah. As we look towards the future, let us remember that, “With hardship, there is ease” (Qur’an 94:6), and be inspired by the resilience of those we serve.

We cannot turn away from the people of Gaza. Our duty is to help rebuild lives and support a brighter future. I extend my deepest gratitude to our supporters whose generosity has enabled us to deliver vital assistance in Gaza. Together, with Allah’s guidance, we must continue to build, support, and bring hope, for there is no cause more noble than upholding the dignity and rights of our brothers and sisters.
