More than 300 dead in Afghanistan flash floods

More than 300 dead in Afghanistan flash floods

Over 300 were killed when flash floods ravaged Afghanistan’s northern provinces of Badakhshan, Ghor, Baghlan, and Herat.

On Sunday, the World Food Programme announced that over 300 people have been killed, over 1,600 individuals sustaining injuries and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said that nearly 2,000 homes have been damaged.

Changing weather patterns are leading to more frequent and severe droughts and floods in Afghanistan. Erratic rainfall and snowfall patterns exacerbate these events, impacting agriculture and livelihoods.

The people of Afghanistan are in desperate need. 22 million Afghans are facing food crisis or emergency. 95% of people do not have enough to eat and 1 million children are at risk of dying from malnutrition. Time is running out for many of the children, women, and elderly.

Muslim Aid has been in Afghanistan providing vital support for civilians for over 20 years and we are continuing to do so as the country seeks deeper into humanitarian crisis.

We are a faith-based British international charity that provides help to people who are victims of natural disasters or conflict or suffering from poverty, hunger, disease, homelessness, injustice, deprivation or lack of skills and economic opportunities.
