Homelessness Awareness Muslim Aid’s Steps in Leicester

Muslim Aid supports Leicester homeless community on World Homelessness Day

In recognition of World Homelessness Day, Muslim Aid partnered with Help The Homeless – Leicester by delivering hot food to the community to launch their new three-year partnership.

The charities delivered 100 burgers and chips to individuals in need in a shared commitment to supporting vulnerable people across Britain and raising awareness of homelessness.

“As we mark World Homelessness Day 2024, we stand with the 309,000 individuals' classed as homeless and also the 3989 individuals in England alone that will be find themselves rough sleeping tonight”, says Lucy Rae, Muslim Aid’s UK Programmes manager.

“These statistics will have sadly risen through 2024 to date. Today we stand with our partners to support the resilience and strength of those individuals who find themselves homeless.”

“As we launch our new 3-year partnership with 'Help The Homeless - Leicester' we celebrate the amazing work they do with the unique individuals in the area and support them as they expand the assistance they offer. Today saw the team provide a hot food distribution which was received with a smile and given with love to battle the stigma that often surrounds homelessness.”

Muslim Aid has a history with Serving Humanity in Leicester. Earlier this year, Muslim Aid also provided critical assistance during the severe flooding caused by Storm Henk, which left many Leicestershire residents at risk of losing their homes.

While Muslim Aid known for helping millions across the world, the British charity also has a strong track record of Serving Humanity at home in the UK.

Over the years, Muslim Aid’s UK programmes have included food distributions, supporting food banks, UK winter campaigns, and supporting vulnerable people with draft-proofing initiatives. We also responded to the 2015 UK floods, delivered a UK prisoner support programme, and supported newly arrived and existing refugees.

Muslim Aid responded to the tragic Grenfell fire in West London, being one of the first charities on site distributing food, water and clothing. Our response cumulated in the production of a report titled ‘Mind The Gap’ which reviewed and assessed the voluntary sector’s response to the tragedy.

We are a faith-based British international charity that provides help to people who are victims of natural disasters or conflict or suffering from poverty, hunger, disease, homelessness, injustice, deprivation or lack of skills and economic opportunities.
